iMac Pro for the Fastest Performance: Brief Review of the Key Features

It’s been almost four years since Apple presented a desktop Mac that contained “pro” in its name – and now, the new iMac Pro starts conquering the tech market. Of course, it does not belong to that type of computers designed for big masses as iMac Pro model costs around $5,000. But in fact, you should agree that not all users need such a powerful device. If you expect from your computer to be able to cope with software development, editing video, audio and photo processing and other apps at the same time – then your choice should be iMac Pro.
Mac Pro evolution stages
It all started with a desktop Mac. Then the line was renamed to Mac Pro, which was in the mid-range and demanding users made their choice in favor of Power Mac. However, over the decade Apple started positioning Mac Pro as an expensive device limited to professional work only. But still, there are many assignments that even iMac Pro cannot cope with.
“Tasty” filling – high performance
At the first sight, it is just an iMac with 27-inch display presented in the darker silver shade. All peripherals supplied by Apple (mouse, wireless keyboard, and trackpad) are also available in the same color (for now they go just with this device). However, the inside of this computer pretty much differs. The model is powered by 8-core 3.2GHz Xeon W processor (also available other versions) which is useful in case you are stuck with certain programs not aimed to spread the load of processor around cores.
The basic iMac Pro model also has 32GB of RAM (changeable up to 128GB), Radeon Pro Vega GPU and 1TB of SSD storage (also changeable up to 4TB). RAM slots can be upgraded by Apple only or the authorized Apple repair center which makes it a bit difficult for you. So when buying, you need to choose the amount of RAM you might need for the next couple of years. The good news is that if you need more RAM in the future, the iMac Pro can be upgraded. The SSD storage contains two banks of NAND memory managed by the T2 processor. Speeding up Mac is better for you as then it is able to read up to 2.8GB per second. Fast, huh?
In addition to grey color, the biggest upgrade lays in the quality and content of the ports on the iMac Pro back: it has four Thunderbolt 3/USB-C ports that allow the fast external connection. The device can drive two external displays (wow!) and its Ethernet port has 10 GB of speed which is good for making the networked storage a local one.
Mac of the future
It is actually not the first Mac model that has a mix of ARM chip designed by Apple with an Intel processor: T2 of iMac Pro foreshadows a future where Mac models are made more efficient and secure due to the helper chip built by Apple which works with GPU and CPU. T2 is responsible for controlling internal microphones, stereo speakers, and dual cooling fans. Thanks to that, the image is greatly improved compared to previous iMac cameras. What is more impressive, T2 has functions of the disk controller and the whole system encrypting all data which is stored on disk.
The iMac Pro works the way you expect it to work. Speaking of iMac Pro advantages, it is worth mentioning the cooling system. It whispers quietly – even if you are in a quiet room, you would not hear a sound unless you stuck your ear up to the back of computer. The only actual sign showing that the device was under load is warmer air that is blowing out of the back.
Summing up
With all mentioned above, if using iMac you decided you are in need of much better performance from your software, the iMac Pro will be a good match. We still do not know much about upcoming Mac Pro, it is supposed to be more customized than the iMac. However, today the iMac Pro is the fastest one, with fast processors, connection, storage, and all that is attached to the gorgeous screen. It is just an amazing combination of the Mac Pro and iMac.
