Many users around the world recently became victims of malware. The whole concept of such viruses’ actions is easy: it penetrates your system and encrypts any file, causing a series of issues. You can simply get this malware through some application, which was recently downloaded through unknown link or internet page. In the end, to fix this problem you need to pay or clean the whole system.
The backup service on Mac
If you buy your own backup service, there is still a chance that some ransomware may hijack it. For example, it can slowly be integrated into your system, deleting the most important files. That means your backup service will be no longer useful and all data gathered there can be destroyed in few minutes, even if your Mac is off.
Apple has just a few examples of such attacks, but it is hard to tell how the virus will work if it penetrates into the system. Mostly, it depends on backup service you had bought.
- Cloud-host backup. In this type of backup service, the old files are not overwritten by the new ones, unless the configuration of your settings is odd. At the same time, your old files are incorporated and it also adds new files. If some ransomware attacks your Macbook, you can check the exact time of this action and get a screenshot from the backup server. This must be a well-designed type of malware, created by some genius. However, in order to prevent this situation – make these screenshots from time to time.
- Another popular backup is Time Machine. It works through an online drive, where your files are safe. Still, there is some malware, created to be encrypted inside this backup to delete everything there.
- If you are obsessed with the idea of being hijacked any time, then you must consider creating Clones. The clone is a copy of your drive. You can create enough clones to be out of the potential attack.
